Summer, Sports, and Travel

Well folks, it's officially Summer and I'm looking forward to spending more time at the farmers markets.

Travel.  Well, yeah, I took a vacation to Florida last month, but this month, my family and I are headed to Wyoming with side trips to Montana planned for the 4th of July.  We literally can't wait...although I had hoped to go back to South Dakota and visit Mount Rushmore, but I think we are going to delay that for another visit hopefully in the next year or two.

Father's Day.  I believe this day is one for me to take stock and look back.  How are my kids doing?  Did I do a good enough job?  The answer is the kids are fine, so the question remains, do I take credit?  No, I don't.  The job my wife did with the kids is simply amazing, and I love her for it.

CFL.  You know what else I like about June?  In normal years, the CFL starts up.  Unfortunately this year, I have to wait until August, and that's problematic for the CFL because a lot of folks who love Football get their fix with Canada in June and July.  Now with training camp and a shortened pre-season for the NFL, the CFL isn't going to get those eyes.

NBA.  The NBA freaking drives me crazy for many reasons off the court, but on the court...(1) if you aren't hitting your three point shots, STOP FUCKING SHOOTING THEM, (2) can you make your fucking free throws, (3) stop with the whining, and (4) play some fucking defense or at the very least adapt when your game plan isn't working?

Oh yeah, while I'm ranting on these folks, hey LeBron, nobody wants to hear your "I told you so" shit about injuries.  You would be the LAST person complaining if you were still in the playoffs, so spare me.  By the way, how 'bout letting your union talk about this issue - which I grant you is important, but the last time I checked, there's 12 players dressed on each team.  Hey LBJ, maybe if you and your AD teammate didn't make so much money, you'd have more money to find better players to help???

Hey Utah, what the hell was that?  I was rooting for you and you took an absolute dump on me and insulted your fans with that garbage loss to the Lower Alabama Clippers.  You had no intention of changing what you were doing, busting threes when you went cold, horrible defense, and terrible coaching - it seemed as if Quin Snyder was just not going to change his plan even after it was clear the Clip Joint was tearing it apart.

MLB.  I listened to the talking heads while driving yesterday and they are still confounded by MLB.  They wonder why MLB can't gain traction.  Well talking heads, YOU are the reason - you refuse to talk about games.  You refuse to talk about games and stats, but you damn sure will talk about Tony LaRussa and alleged doctoring of the baseballs.  YOU would prefer to talk about Aaron Rodgers and the NBA.  I get the NBA playoffs, but YOU won't talk about Baseball on the diamond in July?  And then you wonder why MLB "struggles?"  Do you even know there's 30 teams in the league or just eight?

NFL.  A little over one month away from training camps opening...

Wave of the future???  As we approach July I always rant on the Tour de France, but what I am seeing is that the media is putting that under a paywall?  This crap of slowly moving to a paywall to see how far you can get away with is going to be the death knell of sports.  To those of you a-holes paying for stuff you were getting for free?  Shame on your dumb asses.

Summer Solstice.  I didn't realize that today is the Summer Solstice/the start of Summer.  Summer being what it is, you enjoy things where you find them - and today it's fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and tri-tip.  The pool was fully used by the kids and all is right with the world.  I hope to remember to go out and enjoy the early evening before the sunset.

This week, I think I'm gonna take a trip to get some fresh fruit and veggies, there's just something about that which appeal to me - just the getting out and walking around.  At the same time, I find some sort of relaxation in reading the online version of the Old Farmers Almanac.  I wish I knew why, but to see things and maybe get some new ideas or just to learn is a pretty cool thing.

Final Thought.  Man, life is so good.  I realize that I am very fortunate.  I live in a small town and have everything a man could want, and now it's Summer and I'm fortunate enough to go on another trip.  Look folks, forget the non-sense, just kick back and enjoy life.

As my friend Beeze says "Have a week."
