February

William Shakespeare is quoted as saying:  Why, what's the matter, That you have such a February face, So full of frost, of storm and cloudiness?  Why indeed.  I would have said this for January.

As January comes to a close, we can start thinking of different things, like Spring.  With the onset of February, sports fans have the Super Bowl, Daytona, and Spring Training - and in normal years, we have the Basketball and Hockey all-star events.  Kids will learn of Groundhog Day and whether or not we get six more weeks of Winter, and adults will focus on Valentines Day, and the next day being President's Day may make it a perfect weekend for some.  Finally, we have Lent for those who practice, and others - we have Mardi Gras - and you best believe that I WILL be making some cajun that night (February 16th this year)!!!

February is also Black History Month, and I hope this year we take a look and perhaps learn something you didn't already know.  For me, I am focusing on the seven black veterans from World War II who were FINALLY awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor - in 1997.  Some incredible stories.

So yeah, February is a cold month, but it also has a lot of heat to it and it will go by fast.  Certainly more to look forward to than that long, cold January.

Some dumbass...decided to troll my block and cut out some catalytic converters in the rain.  Sucks for him though that one of my neighbors caught him and bodyslammed him to the deck.  Apparently, there is a ring of them here in NORCAL, but if they're this dumb then they won't be around long.

Food Insecurity.  In San Antonio sometime last year there was a camera shot from a drone above showing lines of cars waiting for food.  How in the hell in this country have we gotten to this point?  If you want something to be outraged about - this and homelessness should be it.  I know the 'rona had a lot to do with it, but we should all be at least thinking about it and trying to find a way to help.

Game Stop.  I'm not even going to begin to try to understand this financial shit, but with that being said this should be the takeaway - if you partake in the Stock Market, you need to understand that its rigged equivalent to sitting in a casino in Nevada.

There's one saying that hopefully everybody understands now - "DTA" ("Don't Trust Anybody").  How in the world would you trust anybody with your hard earned money?

This weekend.  Well, the weather has cleared up and nobody floated away that I know of, so I guess it's time to bust out my grill while the sun comes out and make some baby back ribs, with a new sauce I found to make - Jalapeno/Apple BBQ sauce - maybe with some cole slaw and bbq beans.

Final Thought.  So yeah, February is almost here - and we'll have some stuff to look forward to, but let's take some time to think about some serious issues too:  Food Insecurity and Homelessness are two of the things that we can contribute to fixing.  So again, if you're waiting for politicians anywhere to fix a problem, you're gonna be waiting a very long time with little hope.  Go out and work towards a pervasive problem.

Like Jerry says, "take care of yourselves...and each other."  It's the only way we move forward.
