An end to the NFL Regular Season

Holidays are passed, and now we have an immediate thing to divert our attention - the final week of the NFL regular season.  Uncle B.O.B. is here to tell you that if you are a gambling degenerate, don't even think of whipping out your wallet to place a bet - there are too many "ifs" out there outside of the NFC Least.  Drop all the coin you want on those losers.

So here's the "who gives a shit" games:

  1. New York Props @ New England.  Not even in my wildest dreams did I see New England fall apart like this.  I figured 9-7 or something like that.  As for the Props, they're on a bit of a roll right now, and tanking isn't an option as players and coaches are fighting for their jobs.  Gotta figure New York takes this one over what is an anemic New England offense.
  2. Minnesota @ Detroit.  Of the two teams Minny has the brighter future and they do have the ability to win this game.  I wonder if they play Dalvin Cook.  At the same time, Detroit has to be licking their chops with Matt Stafford against a horrible Minny pass defense.  And what of Adrian Peterson?  If this is the end of his career, doing it against his old team will certainly motivate him.  I see Detroit taking this game.
  3. Vega$ @ Denver.  I hope these two teams open up the playbook and go crazy on offense.  Conventional wisdom says that the Raidahs will win, but their history of this late season and the weather in Denver means the Donkeys take it.
  4. Chargers @ Kansas City.  Here's the thing, KC has absolutely nothing to play for except one thing - they need to start strong against the Chargers and end it quick.  As for LA, my guess is that within hours of the end of this game, they will fire Anthony Lynn.  KC wins, but they need to send a statement.
  Somewhat important games:

  1. Atlanta @ Tampa.  Tampa is playing to win because the way I understand it, they would have to play the winner of the NFC Least in the first week of the playoffs.  Atlanta has been playing well, and I don't believe that they are going to quit, but in the end, you gotta figure Brady and Gronk aren't going to allow losing.  Tampa wins, but a lot closer than some think.
  2. Seattle @ SF.  Seattle's chance of the #1 seed is slim but they are playing for the #2 or #3 ranking.  SF still considers this a rivalry.  This game is going to be close, but Russell Wilson will get it going today and my guess is Metcalf is going to go nuts.  Seattle wins.
  3. Tennessee @ Houston.  You gotta think Tennessee is in even if they lose because they'll get help.  Houston is a freaking train wreck, but they do seem to be playing better.  Hell, they can't even look forward to the draft that's how far down the abyss they are.  They are going to want to go out on a winning note, so Tennessee can't take this for granted.  I get the sense that Houston is going to rise up and take it.
  4. Jax @ Indy.  Jax is locked into the #1 spot for the draft.  They play tough for stretches.  Indy is going to come out strong.  I can't see any way for Indy to lose, I just can't.
  5. New Orleans @ Carolina.  I don't know why, but I am absolutely confident that the Saints will win big.  Carolina had their big win last week and they'll go into the off-season with some good vibes, but not Sunday.
  6. Pittsburgh @ Cleveland.  Pittsburgh isn't playing the greatest, resting their players, and Cleveland and Baker Mayfield desperately needs this game if for no other reason then to build a foundation going forward.  Everything favors Cleveland playing at home, so for that reason, I'm taking Pittsburgh because of one intangible - they dominate Cleveland.
Gotta Win:
  1. Baltimore @ Cincinnati.  Here's another case of the team who isn't favored is playing really well of late.  Obviously Baltimore needs to win and then needs help, and given that Cincy eliminated them a few years back, there's no way Harbaugh isn't going to have them ready.  PS - Baltimore is getting it together.  Baltimore wins going away.
  2. Arizona @ LA Lambs.  Both need it to get in, both need have tons of injuries.  Whose defense plays better?  To me, Arizona is still a year away and will be a tough out in late 2021, NOT in January or February.  The Zonies will need to call a perfect offensive game and Murray simply can't make a single mistake - that's a lot to ask anybody.  LA wins, but I wonder if this ends up in OT?
  3. Miami @ Buffalo.  Can't call this one because you just don't know what Buffalo is going to do.  It isn't a "must win" for them.  Miami however knows its a must win for them - there is no tomorrow.  Does it come down to weather?  If so, advantage Buffalo.
  4. Dallas @ Big Blue.  Winner is still in the running for the Least.  Dallas has the talent and should win the game.  Wonder how many times the viewership of this game are going to be subjected to seeing Jerry Jones in his booth?  That question may be more interesting than the game itself.
  5. Washington @ Philly.  If ever an organization needed a win, it's Washington and it's on Sunday Night Football.  I'm in absolute shock over how poor of a season Philly has had, but Philly could rise up.  Washington's defense really struggled with Carolina which was a shock.  I can't see it twice in a row, particularly with Rivera coaching them up, particularly if they know Dallas won - that should motivate them beyond belief.
  6. Green Bay @ Chicago.  Green Bay wants the #1 seed, Chicago needs to win and get help.  Chicago has been improved, but is their offense able to keep up with Green Bay?
The playoff scenario is too damn convoluted even at this late date, but what we do know is that Kansas City has the #1 seed in the AFC.  Anything else at this point is pure speculation - but hey, it's gonna be fun...

Before I leave, the NFL did a decent job this year given all the shit we've gone through.  Props to them.
